How We Work
Our partnerships result in stronger communities by sharing ideas through a humanities lens, such as this event and discussion on Dia de los Muertos and The Art of José Guadalupe Posada supported, in part, by Utah Humanities. Image courtesy of Artes de México en Utah.
Creating Partnerships that Put Humanities Ideas into Action
Everything we do at Utah Humanities is in partnership with other organizations. Partnering with us can come in many forms and result in a variety of humanities programs. We also help bring your own humanities ideas to life through quick grants and competitive grants.
Partner with Us
To learn more about what we do and how you can partner with us to benefit your community, see What We Do.
You can also get a feel for what we can accomplish together through partnerships in the brief highlights below:
The Clemente Course and The Venture Course in the Humanities
Led by Utah Humanities, the Clemente Course and the Venture Course are educational partnerships involving Utah schools, colleges, and universities. Both programs provide college-level study of the humanities, with Clemente being designed for high school students who would be first-generation college applicants, and Venture being designed for nontraditional adult students who have not attended college.
Our Utah Humanities Book Festival, an Annual Event
For twenty years, we have offered an annual statewide book festival. The Utah Humanities Book Festival has become Utah's premier literary event and we partner with libraries, local bookstores, and many other organizations across Utah. Partnering with so many organizations allows us to offer free festival events during September and October, working with each organization to offer customized events for their audiences.
Museum on Main Street, Traveling Smithsonian Exhibition
Every three years we tour a Smithsonian Exhibition through Utah museums. Each tour gives museum personnel a chance to increase their own hosting capacity, strengthen local cultural partnerships, and create companion exhibits detailing their community's history. Because of these partnerships, Utahns have been able to explore United States and Utah history through the themed lenses of such topics as Journey Stories and The Way We Worked.
Community Conversations
Founded on the belief that facilitated conversation engages people better than rhetoric and argument, Community Conversations encourages groups to identify issues that are important to them. Communities then come together to discuss the chosen topic through a humanities lens. The act of coming together demonstrates a willingness to listen, and the dialogue itself begins to dissolve barriers and misunderstandings.
